Galena, Illinois
September 20-22, 2019
Attending: Connie, Julie, Lisa L, Sue and Brenda
It was smaller group that went to Galena. The date didn't work our for Peggy and Lisa R, but the rest of us went anyway.
We got there late in the day on Friday. After settling in a bit, we toasted the weekend with Moscow Mules, then headed down town to start the shopping and have dinner.
We don't have a lot of pictures from this trip. Most of our time was spent shopping. We did take a break from shopping Saturday afternoon and visited the Ulysses S. Grant Home and Museum. Grant lived in Galena for a short time right before the Civil War.
After a long day of shopping we decided we should check out a wine store and decided to split a bottle between us. While enjoying it, we did a little shopping in the store. Everyone can use more wine glasses, right?
The last store we visited was cheese, meat, wine and liquor store. This store offered a whiskey tasting and had some amazing meats and cheeses, which we stocked up on for dinner.
Back at the house we rented, we enjoyed the food and beverages we bought along with what we brought from home.
The next morning we went downtown for breakfast and then packed up and left house we rented. We stopped at a local distillery before we left town, but it was early so we didn't try any of their product.
On the way to and from the Distillery, we saw a series of waterfalls in the river next to the road. This was our only nature sighting on this trip. After a quick photo op, we headed for home.
